A reinsurer is trying to help the people who handle critical illness insurance claims understand key policy definition terms.

Gen Re LifeHealth, a unit of General Re Corp., Stamford, Conn., has published the first edition of a critical illness insurance claim guide.

Insurers can use the guide, which explains terms that, in many cases, apply to specific health conditions or procedures, when developing their own policies and procedures for claims adjudication, Gen Re says.

Sample claim forms in the guide describes the sorts of supporting evidence needed for claims personnel to evaluate and adjudicate a claim, Gen Re says.
