National Financial Partners named Daniel Young president and COO of NFP Securities, Inc., NFP’s broker/dealer. Before joining NFPSI, Young was president and CEO of NYLIFE Securities, New York Life’s broker/dealer subsidiary, and Eagle Strategies, New York Life’s RIA.

The Securities and Exchange Commission named John Loesch deputy director of the agency’s Office of Investor Education and Advocacy (OIEA), which is undergoing an expansion announced by SEC Chairman Christopher Cox earlier this year. Loesch joins OIEA from the SEC’s Division of Enforcement, where he has served as senior counsel and branch chief since September 1999.

Nelson Chai was appointed executive VP and CFO of Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc., effective December 10.

Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company announced that its president and COO, Daniel Toran, will retire at the end of 2007 after 12 years with Penn Mutual and 37 years in the life insurance industry. Penn Mutual’s chairman and CEO, Robert Chappell, will assume the title of chairman, president, and CEO on January 1, 2008.

Fisher Investments appointed Miles Standish as the new managing director of Fisher Wealth Management, its UK subsidiary.

Fiserv, Inc. announced that one of its founders, Norm Balthasar, senior executive VP and COO, will officially retire on December 31, 2007. Balthasar will continue in an advisory capacity through the middle of 2008 to ensure a seamless transition and to assist with the integration of the recently acquired CheckFree Corp.
