MetLife Units To Pay $1.7 Billion To Policy Owners

MetLife Inc. announced that 3 of its life insurance subsidiaries will pay a total of about $1.7 billion in policy dividends to eligible life insurance policyholders in 2008.[@@

The payments will be paid to clients owning policies with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, New England Life Insurance Company and General American Life Insurance Company.

Eligible life insurance policyholders include MetLife clients with in-force permanent life insurance policies, primarily whole life and certain term life insurance, says MetLife, New York

Policy dividends are based on a variety of factors, including investment returns, mortality, persistency and expenses.
