American Life Insurance Company, a unit of American Insurance Group Inc., has received a license from the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority to run a retail life insurance business in the Qatar Financial Centre.

The authority began awarding wholesale life licenses in February, but the expanded retail license awarded to ALICO is the first that has been given to a life insurer, according to AIG, New York.

ALICO has been operating in the Middle East since 1952, has regional offices in Dubai and has substantial operations in 14 markets in the region, AIG says.
