A health carrier has developed limited-benefit plans designed for consumers who would have trouble qualifying for conventional individually underwritten coverage.

Assurant Health, Milwaukee, an arm of Assurant Inc., New York, says the new KeyMed plans can provide some individual medical coverage, with restrictions, for people who suffer from conditions such as controlled insulin-dependent diabetes and diabetes combined with high blood pressure.

Product features include network discounts, drug coverage, access to dental coverage and other supplemental benefits, and a Web-based enrollment system.

The KeyMed plans are available in 15 states and soon should be available in 28 additional states, Assurant Health says.
