Renaissance Dental will be expanding its standard dental insurance package starting Jan. 1, 2008.

Like many other dental carriers, Renaissance, a unit of Renaissance Health Service Corp., Okemos, Mich., will be providing extra cleanings and periodontal cleanings for members with gum disease who are pregnant or suffer from conditions such as heart disease.

Renaissance also will provide coverage for extra services for individuals with kidney failure and those who have suppressed immune systems due to chemotherapy, radiation treatment, HIV infection, transplants or stem-cell transplants.

Because a common side effect of head and neck radiation is an increase in cavities, individuals undergoing head and neck radiation will receive coverage for two fluoride treatments per year as well as four cleanings per year, Renaissance says.

- Hummingbird Coaching Services L.L.C., Cincinnati, has published a paper contending that getting senior managers to support a wellness program is the key to making program work.

A company that sponsors a wellness program should designate a wellness coordinator, create a culture of wellness, and find ways to move employees toward healthier choices without mandates, by, for example, asking food service companies and vending machine companies to provide healthier food, Hummingbird says.

- Benepath Inc., Newtown Square, Pa., has started a service that uses Web search engines to generate leads and in-bound telephone calls for insurance agents and brokers.

Producers can get exclusive rights to leads for their area codes or other regions, according to Benepath.
