The Financial Planning Association (FPA) and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) announced a joint effort to help individuals financially prepare for end-of-life care by educating families on a variety of personal financial planning topics including estate planning, advance directives, and insurance benefits. FPA is providing literature on personal finance topics, an e-mail hotline, and a speaker’s bureau for hospices across the country. Additionally, FPA’s PlannerSearch program is available on NHPCO’s Caring Connections Web site–www.caringinfo.org–to help connect individuals and their families with planners.

The Online 401(k) (www.theonline401k.com) has recognized three individuals for their work to bring about “full disclosure of hidden 401(k) fees.” They are: Representative George Miller (D-California), chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee; Ted Benna, president of the 401(k) Association and creator of the 401(k) plan; and Brian Graff, director of the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries.

FPA Press, the publishing arm of the FPA, recently released its newest book–The Right Side of the Table: Where Do You Sit in the Minds of the Affluent?–written by the brothers Todd and Scott Fithian.

Joseph Sparacio will be inducted into The American College’s Alumni Hall of Fame November 15. Sparacio is CEO and managing partner of The Island Financial Group, in Woodbury, New York. Only two other individuals have been inducted into the College’s Alumni Hall of Fame.
