The Internal Revenue Service has 8 openings on a committee that gives it an idea about how members of the public view tax administration issues.

The 8 openings on the Advistory Committee on Tax Exempt and Government Entities include 2 vacancies for employee plans members and 2 vacancies for members representing other types of exempt organizations, IRS officials say.

The Treasury secretary appoints the ACT members. New ACT members will serve 2-year terms that will start June 2008.

People who want to serve on the ACT can apply by letter or by filling out a form on the IRS Web site.

Application forms and letters are due Nov. 30.
