WellPoint Inc. is turning to Zagat Survey L.L.C. to develop a Web-based system for helping consumers rate physicians’ customer service.

Zagat, New York, is known for getting diners to use a 30-point scale to rate restaurants.

WellPoint, Indianapolis, says Zagat will be setting up a system that members of WellPoint Blue Cross and Blue Shield subsidiary plans can use to rate physicians in the areas of trust, communication, availability and office environment.

The Zagat system also will include a comments section, along with a mechanism for flagging problem comments.

Plan members will not be rating the quality of care they have received, WellPoint says.
