Principal Financial Group Inc. will continue to use discounts to persuade workers to open health savings accounts and health reimbursement arrangements.

Principal, Des Moines, Iowa, says it will pay setup fees for employees who buy new HSAs between Nov. 1 and Jan. 31, 2008.

Principal also will waive monthly HRA administration fees for 1 policy year for new insurance sales with effective dates between Nov. 1 and Jan. 31, 2008, Principal says.

If the HRA is sold with an extended rate guarantee, the monthly fee waiver can be extended to a maximum of 15 months, Principal says.

Principal was offering a similar program a year ago for group plan members who would be setting up HSAs or HRAs in late 2006 and early 2007.
