The America’s Health Insurance Plans Foundation has won a $4.2 million contract to help develop standard physician performance measures.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Princeton, N.J., awarded the grant to the AHIP Foundation, Washington, in connection with a $16 million effort to improve U.S. health care cost and quality reporting efforts.
The AHIP Foundation will be responsible for gathering data from many different sources, including the Medicare program, to develop national physician performance measures.
Project organizers say they hope physicians will start using the framework the AHIP Foundation and other groups are developing in performance reports sometime after 2010.
