A software giant has chosen an electronic personal health record standard for a new consumer health information storage system.

Microsoft Corp., Redmond, Wash., will be using the icePHR personal health record system from the CapMed unit at Bio-Imaging Technologies Inc., Newtown, Pa., in its HealthVault system.

CapMed has distributed over 600,000 personal health records directly to consumers and through third-party partnerships with entities such as hospitals, health plans and pharmaceutical companies, according to Bio-Imaging Technologies.

Consumers can use icePHR Web accounts to store health information for themselves and for up to 10 family members.
