LaserFiche has rolled out Intuition, a version of its popular document management system designed for smaller advisory firms. Available in two versions–one costing $1,495, the other $1,995 (which includes a scanner)–the full-function software is meant to ease smaller advisors’ fears about the initial investment necessary to build more efficient, paperless practices.

…Several mutual funds have begun providing risk/return information using XBRL interactive data, SEC Chairman Christopher Cox announced August 21. The fund data will be available to the public via the SEC’s online database, EDGAR.

…SEI has formed an alliance with Aon’s Affinity Insurance Services to offer errors and omissions insurance to SEI’s network of 6,500 affiliated advisors.

…In early September, Barclays Global Investors’ iShares S&P National Municipal Bond Fund, the first municipal bond ETF available to U.S. investors, began trading on the American Stock Exchange. PowerShares is planning to launch in October two new ETFs that will invest in municipal bonds–the PowerShares Insured Municipal Bond and the PowerShares National Municipal Bond Portfolio.

…MetLife announced the launch of Solving the Mystery of Lifetime Income, a marketing campaign that includes educational materials for advisors and their clients. A major part of the campaign is a white paper written by Moshe Milevsky, associate professor of finance at York University’s Schulich School of Business, that addresses the concept of sequence of returns and how the success of a retirement income strategy can greatly depend on when a person decides to start withdrawing income.
