The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has registered 7 nationally recognized statistical rating organizations.

Congress imposed new registration requirements and other requirements, such as conflict-of-interest standards and methodology disclosure standards, on major rating agencies when it passed the Credit Rating Agency Reform Act.

The 7 registered NRSROs are A.M. Best Company Inc., Oldwick, N.J.; DBRS Ltd:; Toronto; Fitch Inc., London; Japan Credit Rating Agency Ltd., Tokyo; Moody’s Investors Service Inc., New York; Rating and Investment Information Inc., Tokyo; and Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services, New York.

Each of the agencies is supposed to post a Form NRSRO disclosure document on its Web site by Oct. 8.
