A manager of Medicaid and State Children’s Health Insurance Program plans has decided to move to the city.

Centene Corp. has decided to move its main offices to downtown St. Louis, from Clayton, Mo., a suburb of St. Louis.

Centene has hired a developer to help it build a $250 million complex on a site near the new Busch Stadium, the home of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Centene hopes to break ground in early 2008 and move 1,200 employees into the complex in the next 3 to 5 years, the company says.

The first phase of the complex will include 700,000 square feet of office space and 1,450 parking spaces. The second phase could provide 550,000 additional square feet, Centene says.

Centene also plans to use the 2 buildings it now occupies and Clayton, the company says.
