Aetna To Acquire International Medical MGU

A health carrier is expanding its ability to sell plans that cross borders.

Aetna Inc., Hartford, has agreed to acquire Goodhealth Worldwide (Global) Ltd., Hamilton, Bermuda, a unit of Primary Group Ltd., Hamilton.

Goodhealth is a managing general underwriter, or underwriting agent, for international private medical insurance arrangements for individuals and employers.

Goodhealth administers plans with a total of about 55,000 members. The company employs 170, and it has offices in Dubai, Hong Kong, Jakarta, London, Miami, and Shanghai as well as in Bermuda.

The price of the deal was not available.

Aetna hopes to complete the deal within 30 days, the company says.
