Aetna Inc. is offering an accelerated death benefit with its life insurance products that lets owners take part of their policy values while still living if they become seriously ill or injured.
The ADB would apply to any of the following medical conditions:
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
End stage heart, kidney, liver or pancreatic organ failure when the person is not a transplant candidate.
A medical condition requiring artificial life support, without which the person would die.
A permanent neurological deficit resulting from a stroke or a traumatic brain injury, which are expected to result in lifelong confinement in a hospital or skilled nursing facility.
All life policy holders qualify for ADB, and in most cases can receive 75% of their policy face value, Aetna says.
