The readers have spoken. For the 17th straight year, readers of Investment Advisor have chosen their Broker/Dealers of the Year in balloting that took place during the month of June at www.investmentadvisor.com. Nearly 6,000 representatives of independent broker/dealers cast ballots, judging their own broker/dealers in 14 separate areas–from the quality of home office personnel to technology support–and those broker/dealers that gained the highest composite scores were awarded the honors in four different divisions based on their number of producing reps. The winning B/Ds–two of which were Broker/Dealers of the Year in prior years, and two that are first-time winners–will be profiled in Investment Advisor’s September 2007 issue, and the leaders of the winning firms have agreed to serve on the Investment Advisor Broker/Dealer Advisory Board for the next 12 months.

The 2007 Broker/Dealers of the Year are:

Division I (for broker/dealers with up to 199 producing reps): Harbour Investments Inc. Based in Madison, Wisconsin, and led by its founder, CEO, and president, Nick Sondel, this firm can celebrate its 20th anniversary with its first-ever win as Broker/Dealer of the Year. Its reps gave the firm particularly high marks for its management and product list.

Division II (covering B/Ds with 200 to 499 reps): Brecek & Young Advisors, Inc. This Folsom, California-based broker/dealer returns to the winner’s circle for the fifth time–Brecek & Young also won in 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2005. Led by Chairman and CEO Christopher Ranney, this B/D’s reps lauded the firm for its compliance department and back-office support.

Division III (for firms with 500 to 999 reps): Capital Financial Group/H.Beck. Led by its chairman, CEO, and founder, Eric Meyers, and based in Rockville, Maryland, this is the first time H. Beck has won B/D of the Year honors, garnering special praise from its reps for the timely payment of commissions and its high payout.

Division IV (for B/Ds with more than 1,000 reps): Cambridge Investment Research Inc. This independent B/D, based in Fairfield, Iowa, and led by President Eric Schwartz, is now a two-time Broker/Dealer of the Year winner; it also placed first in its division in 2003. Known as a flexible and fee-focused broker/dealer, Cambridge’s reps confirmed that reputation by giving Cambridge high marks for its fee-based programs and its product list.
