A carrier is offering another benefits option in the Centennial State.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Denver, a unit of WellPoint Inc., Indianapolis, says it has started offering a same-sex domestic partner health care option to small employers in Colorado.

Several Colorado carriers offer a same-sex coverage option for large employers, but Anthem executives believe Anthem may be the first employer making the option a standard option in the small group market.

When a small business adds the same-sex benefits option, an employee can add a same-sex domestic partner to health coverage by submitting an affidavit of domestic partnership along with a Colorado Uniform Employee Application.
