A long term care insurer says it is catching up on its accounting.

Penn Treaty American Corp., Allentown, Pa., says three subsidiaries, Penn Treaty Network America Insurance Company, American Network Insurance Company and American Independent Network Insurance Company of New York have filed their audited statutory financial statements for the period ended Dec. 31, 2006.

Penn Treaty notes that it received permission from its home state regulatory, the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance, to file the statements 30 days later than the usual due date.

The statutory surplus of one key subsidiary, Penn Treaty America, increased 10% from the figure recorded March 1, 2007, Penn Treaty says.

The statutory surplus increase was due mainly to a notice that Penn Treaty can expect to receive a federal excise tax refund, Penn Treaty says.

Penn Treaty says it will post the audited statutory financial statements to the company Web site Tuesday.

The company now is working to complete the Form 10-K financial report for the period ended Dec. 31, 2006, Penn Treaty says.
