Insurers achieved solid gains in the worksite market in 2006.

Worksite sales increased to $4.7 billion, up about 8% from the 2005 total, according to Eastbridge Consulting Group Inc., Avon, Conn.

Researchers at Eastbridge have based the results on a survey of 61 group and individual worksite marketing carriers.

Eastbridge notes that its researchers made a new effort to determine what percentage of carriers’ business comes from taking business away from other carriers.

The responses indicate that about 12% of “new business annualized premium” may be takeover premium, the Eastbridge researchers estimate.
