Medical Mutual of Ohio says it will try to work with physicians to improve the current dismal take-up rates for electronic personal health records.

The typical take-up rate at plans that have introduced Web-based PHR programs without strong physician involvement is less than 1%, according to Medical Mutual, Cleveland.

Medical Mutual provides or administers health coverage for 1.6 million people.

The 23,000 physicians in the Medical Mutual provider network will start getting patients into the new PHR system automatically sometime this fall, by using the PHR system to manage the office registration process, Medical Mutual says.
