VIIAD Systems L.L.C. says it has come up with a new way to help insurers and other payers hold down health care costs.

VIAAD, Newtown, Pa., says its new Virtual Interactive Identification and Direction program can use a combination of software and about 60 preferred provider network relationships to steer patients to the most cost-effective providers, the company says.

A provider in the network “quilts” can submit claims through an electronic network that immediately factors in network contract discounts and tells the provider how much the provider should try to collect from patients while the patients are still in the provider’s office.
