WellPoint Inc. has introduced new Internet services for health plan members and in-network physicians.

WellPoint, Indianapolis, has replaced its own personal health assessment system with a new system that includes a broader set of risk factors and generates personalized recommendations, the company says.

The WellPoint system will use information about a consumer’s health to determine what resources a consumer sees first. If a consumer suffers from depression, for example, the site might guide the consumer to journals, workbooks, forums and other resources for people suffering from depression, WellPoint says.

WellPoint also has added materials to help physicians learn about strategies for decreasing the effects of race and other demographic characteristics on the types and quality of care that patients receive.

The updated Web site also provides health education materials and disease-specific materials in Spanish and Chinese, and it provides materials written specifically for consumers who have a hard time reading.
