Habersham Funding L.L.C. is expanding into the Golden State.

Habersham, Atlanta, has received a license to do business as a viatical settlement provider in California, the firm says.

Habersham now has the ability to buy life insurance policies through life settlement arrangements with older policyholders in the District of Columbia, most U.S. territories, and all states other than Alaska and Florida, the firm says.

Habersham also has the licenses it needs to buy policies from terminally ill policy owners in most states. Habersham is applying for the licenses necessary to buy policies from terminally ill owners in the remaining states, the firm says.

M. Bryan Freeman, one of the founders of the modern life settlement industry, formed Habersham in 2001.
