The New York State Senate has confirmed Eric R. Dinallo as the state’s 39th insurance superintendent.

Dinallo had been served as acting superintendent since January 2007.

He joined the department from Willis Group Holdings, New York, where he had been general counsel.

From 1999 to 2003, he was chief of the securities bureau in the office of then-state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer. Soon after Spitzer assumed his duties as Governor of New York in January, he nominated Dinallo to head the state Department of Insurance.
