The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors will be giving its John Newton Russell Award to Phillip Richards.
The award recognizes sustained and meritorious service to the life insurance industry.
NAIFA, Falls Church, Va., is honoring Richards for his longtime support of NAIFA’s GAMA International affiliate.
Richards, chairman of North Star Resource Group, Minneapolis, acquired the insurance agency at the heart of the group in 1969 and built it into a firm that serves 70,000 individuals and businesses.
Richards was president of GAMA in 2002-2003 and senior vice president in 2004-2005, and he now serves on NAIFA’s finance committee.
Richards has served as a Better Business Bureau arbitrator for 37 years, NAIFA says.
