A Muncie, Ind., university is trying to use lectures to strengthen its state’s economy.

Ball State University started the Ohlson Family Speaker Series program at its new Indianapolis center earlier this month with a talk by Chester Elton, co-author of the The Carrot Principle.

Ball State added the lecture series to implement the new Insurance Accelerator Project, the university says.

The university, the insurance industry and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation’s Office of Insurance Initiatives are organizing the project to increase the number of insurance jobs in Indiana, Ball State says.

Ray and Ann Ohlson, Ball State alumni, are funding the lecture series.

Ray Ohlson is president of the Ohlson Group Inc., Indianapolis, an insurance marketing firm.
