The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted another patent for technology used in substantiation of health benefits debit card transactions to Evolution Benefits Inc.

Evolution, Avon, Conn., is the parent of the “Benny Card,” a payment card used in conjunction with health savings accounts and other personal health accounts.

The company’s new patent, U.S. Patent 7,197,468, covers the process the company uses to manage “real-time and retrospective substantiation methods at the individual cardholder level for an employer group,” Evolution says.

In February, Evolution received U.S. Patent 7,174,302, which covers the process the company uses to make sure that holders use the cards only to buy eligible items before holders buy the items.
