The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted a patent for technology used in substantiation of health benefits debit card transactions to Evolution Benefits Inc.
Evolution, Avon, Conn., is the parent of the “Benny Card,” a payment card used in conjunction with health savings accounts and other personal health accounts.
The company’s patent, U.S. Patent 7,174,302, covers the process the company uses to make sure that holders use the cards only to buy eligible items and to eliminate the need for the cardholder to keep paper receipts to substantiate the purchases, Evolution says.
