One company in the Blue Cross and Blue Shield family has scooped up operations from another member of the family.

USAble Life has acquired the life insurance and disability insurance division of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, Eagan, Minn.

Minnesota Blue has sold life and disability to about 160,000 customers through its MII Life Inc. affiliate, the company estimates.

USAble is a unit of Life and Specialty Ventures L.L.C., Little Rock, Ark., a holding company owned by Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Little Rock, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Jacksonville, Fla.

Minnesota Blue says it will have the right to sell USAble products, but the price of the deal and other terms were not immediately available.
