A life insurer is trying to make it easier for customers to shift to permanent coverage.

AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company, New York, a unit of AXA S.A., Paris, has unveiled the Term Series, a family of 5 new and refurbished term life insurance policies.

In addition to a redesigned annual renewable term product and redesigned 10-, 20- and 30-year level-term products, the family includes a new 15-year level-term policy, according to AXA Equitable.

The periods during which policyholders can convert to permanent life insurance policyholders range from 8 years for holders of the 10-year policies to 20 years for holders of the 30-year policies.

As long as there are no changes in the policy, term policyholders can convert to permanent coverage without undergoing medical examinations or blood tests, AXA Equitable says.

AXA Equitable also has introduced a new Class B underwriting classification. The new class will provide more affordable coverage for consumers with minor health issues, the company says.

Consumers in good health can qualify for Preferred, Preferred Plus or Preferred Elite rates.
