The U.S. Office of Personnel Management says it is pleased with enrollment figures for the new Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program.

The first open enrollment season for the employee-paid plans attracted 690,000 enrollees, officials report.

A report at the Federal Times reported in September that results of an informal Federal Times Web survey suggested that more than 5 million federal employees might be interested in the voluntary dental and vision plans.

The dental vendors in the program are Aetna Inc., Hartford; CompBenefits Corp., Roswell, Ga.; Government Employees Hospital Association Inc., Lee’s Summit, Mo.; Group Health Inc., Kingston, N.Y.; MetLife Inc., New York; Triple-S Inc., San Juan, Puerto Rico; and the United Concordia unit of Highmark Inc., Pittsburgh.

The vision benefits vendors are BCBS Vision; the Spectera unit of UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn.; and Vision Service Plan Inc., Sacramento, Calif.
