Habersham Funding L.L.C. has received a life settlement provider license from Georgia insurance regulators.

Georgia first passed a law establishing a life settlement provider licensing program in 2005, which allowed existing providers to continue to operate while going through the licensing process, according to Habersham, Atlanta.

Habersham believes it is the first provider licensed in Georgia, the company says.

The Georgia license gives Habersham the ability to buy in-force life policies in the District of Columbia and most states but Alaska, Florida and Montana, the company says.

M. Bryan Freeman, the president of Habersham, is the immediate past president of the Life Settlement Association of America, Orlando. He founded Habersham in 2001.
