The life insurance industry sent a team of 45 volunteers to the Gulf Coast to attack the damage wrought by Katrina.

The Million Dollar Round Table Foundation, Park Ridge, Ill., mobilized the volunteers to help rebuild 6 homes in the New Orleans East Neighborhood.

The team included MDRT members from New Orleans, Canada and South Africa along with members of the Louisiana Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, foundation executives say.

The volunteers installed subflooring, put up siding, built roofs and painted, according to the MDRT foundation.

“This build is MDRT’s way of giving back to a community that has gone through so much,” says 2007 MDRT Foundation President Mark Jones.

The MDRT Foundation has raised a total of $575,000 for Katrina relief efforts from its members, and $300,000 of the cash went to Habitat for Humanity International, Americus, Ga.
