Heritage Guaranty Holdings Group has hired former Texas Insurance Commissioner Elton Bomer to run 4 life insurance company units.

Bomer, who was appointed to be Texas insurance commissioner by then Gov. George Bush in 1995 and later served as Texas secretary of state, will be president of American Reserve Life Insurance Company, Liberty Bankers Life Insurance Company, Mid-Continent Preferred Life Insurance Company and Winnfield Life Insurance Company, according to Heritage Guaranty, Dallas.

For the past 2 years, Bomer has been a business and governmental affairs consultant in the Austin, Texas, office of Gardere Wynne Sewell L.L.P.

In addition to serving in the Bush cabinet, Bomer served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1981 to 1985 and from 1991 to 1995.

Heritage Guaranty notes that it hopes to grow by acquiring life insurance companies and blocks of business as well as through marketing of existing products.
