A major player in the long term care insurance market is trying to focus Washington’s attention on the topic.
Genworth Financial Inc., Richmond, Va., has recruited Newt Gingrich, the former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, and Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a former Congressional Budget Office head who wrote often about the difficulties of financing the baby boomers’ long term care costs, to speak Wednesday in Washington at a national long term care symposium.
The list of speakers also includes Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., who serves on the Senate Budget Committee and the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee.
The agenda will include LTC funding, the state of employer-sponsored LTC benefits and the role long term care will play in the 2006 and 2008 elections, Genworth says.
