A giant Medicare supplement insurance program is introducing products for older residents of 3 states.

The AARP Health Care Options Program, Fort Washington, Pa., says it has received permission from regulators to sell Medicare supplement plans K and L to members of AARP, Washington, who live in Kansas, Maine and Pennsylvania.

Now that the new approvals have come in, the AARP program is selling the Plan K and Plan L options in 45 states.

Purchasers of Plan K can hold down monthly premiums by agreeing to spend up to $4,000 per year on coinsurance payments and co-payments.

Purchasers of Plan L must agree to accept responsibility for up to $2,000 per year in coinsurance payments and co-payments.

A unit of UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn., will be writing the new Plan K and Plan L coverage.
