Members of the U.S. House of Representatives are helping the insurance industry get ready for a major consumer awareness effort.

The lawmakers have introduced House Resolution 912, a measure that would designate September as Life Insurance Awareness Month, according to the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, Falls Church, Va.

NAIFA is also seeking support for the awareness month effort from the White House, Congress, governors, state legislatures and state regulators.

The 2006 awareness month will mobilize 14 trade associations and 90 life insurers for efforts to explain the need for life insurance and related products, NAIFA says.

“The support of the House of Representatives reinforces the government’s continued recognition of the essential role of life insurance in the financial lives of the American people,” NAIFA Chief Executive David Woods says in a statement about the awareness month effort.
