Principal Financial Group Inc. is trying to encourage more of its benefit plan members to improve their health.
Principal, Des Moines, Iowa, once offered the wellness incentives only to members of its health plans, but now it is offering the incentives to members of all group insurance plans, including group life, group disability, group dental and group vision plans, the company says.
Incentives will be available for plan members who participate in smoking cessation programs and weight loss programs, Principal says.
Participants also will get discounts on products such as mints sweetened with a xylitol, a sugar substitute that may fight cavities and prevent ear infections.
