Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina says it will extend a program that encourages consumers to consider cost when choosing prescription drugs.

North Carolina Blue, Chapel Hill, N.C., started waiving co-payments for members who buy generic drugs Jan. 1.

North Carolina Blue had planned to end the waivers July 31, but it now says it is continuing the program until the end of the year because the percentage of member prescription purchases involving generics has increased to 56% today, from 51% when the waiver program started.
