United Concordia Companies Inc. is starting to sell Concordia Access, a dental program that covers a discount provider network with a small amount of dental insurance.

United Concordia, Harrisburg, Pa., a unit of Highmark Inc., Pittsburgh, says the program, which will be available to employers throughout the United States, will include coverage for cleanings, routine exams and other diagnostic and preventive services.

Program members who need services such as insertion of fillings or implants will have to pay for the services themselves, but they will get a preferred provider plan discount, according to United Concordia.

The limited benefit dental program costs about 20% to 25% less than a conventional insured preferred-provider dental plan, United Concordia says.

United Concordia will be offering the plan to employers with 2 or more enrollees.
