Former NAIC Head To Run N.Y. Life D.C. Office

New York Life Insurance Company has named George Nichols III to succeed Jessie Colgate as the manager of its Washington-based governmental affairs office.

Colgate, who has been running the office since 1989, is retiring, according to New York Life, New York.

Nichols is a former Kentucky insurance commissioner who was president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, Kansas City, Mo., from 1999 to 2000. He began working for New York Life in 2001 and has been running a Tampa, Fla.-based unit that markets life insurance through AARP, Washington.

Nichols has an associate’s degree from Alice Lloyd College, a bachelor’s degree from Western Kentucky University and a master’s degree from the University of Louisville.
