Delaware Insurance Commissioner Matt Denn is seeking the authority to step in when health care providers are having trouble resolving payment disputes with insurers.

Denn is backing a new state bill that would give the Delaware Department of Insurance the ability to arbitrate health insurance provider payment disputes.

The department already provides arbitration services for consumers with disputes with insurance companies over homeowner and auto insurance claims, officials say.

Denn notes in a bill announcement that some health care providers have told him that 20% of their overhead goes toward getting insurers to pay claims.
