Personnel Changes: Hancock, Pru, AIG, Securian

John Hancock Wealth Management has hired Hugh McHaffie to be senior vice president for variable annuities.

McHaffie succeeds James Boyle, who is now president of John Hancock Wealth Management, Boston, according to John Hancock.

John Hancock is a unit of Manulife Financial Corp., Toronto.

McHaffie previously was senior vice president of product management for individual business at a unit of MetLife Inc., New York.

McHaffie has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Toronto.

In other personnel news:

- Prudential Financial Inc., Newark, N.J., has promoted Kent Sluyter to chief actuary for individual life insurance.

Sluyter previously managed Prudential’s individual life insurance underwriting, claims and special investigations units.

Sluyter has a bachelor’s degree from Lafayette College. He holds the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries professional designation.

- American International Group Inc., New York, has hired Timothy Schlitz to be regional vice president of AIG international retirement services-Asia.

Schlitz, who will be based in Tokyo, will hand retirement services accounts in Japan and Korea.

Schlitz has been president of Hartford Life Japan, a unit of Hartford Financial Services Group Inc., Hartford, since 2000.

Schlitz has a bachelor’s degree in integrated studies with a focus in actuarial science from the University of Nebraska. He holds the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries professional designation.

- Securian Financial Group, St. Paul, Minn., has hired Kimberly Anderson to be product manager for long term care insurance.

Anderson previously was a senior marketing specialist at Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Minneapolis. She has a bachelor’s degree in communications from Pacific Lutheran University.

Securian is a unit of Minnesota Mutual Insurance Cos.

- Outward Insights L.L.C., Burlington, Mass., has hired Karen Rothwell to be a director and competitive intelligence coach.

Rothwell previously was vice president of consulting at Fuld & Company Inc., Boston, a competitive intelligence firm.

Rothwell has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a master’s degree in business from Suffolk University.
