A Northeastern health insurer is trying to sell to and through other carriers.

Aetna Inc., Hartford, has formed Advantus, a unit that will court national insurers, regional health plans and benefit plan administrators.

Advantus products and services will include medical provider network rentals, out-of-network claims management, dental network access, stop-loss, credentialing, employee assistance programs, disease management programs and medical management programs.

The business will include several operations acquired by Aetna over the past 2 years. The operations now have more than 400 employees and generate about $100 million in annual revenue, according to Aetna.

Dr. Dan Fishbein will run the Advantus unit, Aetna says.
