The New Mexico Public Regulatory Commission has put the state’s insurance superintendent on a paid, temporary leave, officials say.
New Mexico Attorney General Patricia Madrid asked the commission to suspend the superintendent, Eric Serna, after reviewing materials related to the New Mexico Division of Insurance and a bank custodial contract.
Serna could not immediately be reached for comment, but he has said that he has done nothing wrong, according to reports published elsewhere.
Serna has been the New Mexico insurance superintendent since 2001. He is the 2006 secretary-treasurer of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, Kansas City, Mo. He also has served for 14 years as chairman of the New Mexico State Corporation Commission.
