The Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. is sponsoring fly-fishing retreats for women recovering from breast cancer.

Hartford, Simsbury, Conn., says it is supporting Casting for Recovery, a national nonprofit organization that provides the retreats to help women recover physically and emotionally from breast cancer.

The sponsorship will be used to support weekend fly fishing retreats that are specifically designed for women who have or have had breast cancer.

By learning fly fishing, women undergo emotional and physical healing, mingle with others who have had the disease and gain confidence from learning new skills, Hartford explains. The retreats are provided at no cost to participants at top lodges and inns across the country.

Last year, the Hartford became the first life insurer to offer life insurance to women age 40 and older who have been treated for early stages of breast cancer, at the same rates as other healthy women their age. Women treated for breast cancer often have to pay more for coverage, if they can obtain it at all.
