AXA Equitable Life Insurance Company says it is trying to ramp up efforts to distribute life insurance products through independent brokerage general agents.

AXA Equitable, New York, has announced plans to combine the operations of AXA Partners – the old MONY Partners unit – and U.S. Financial Life Insurance Company.

AXA Partners distributes AXA Equitable products such as universal life insurance and term life insurance to brokerage firms and brokerage general agents.

U.S. Financial has wholesalers distribute its term life and universal life products to independent brokerage general agents.

Gary Hirschkorn, an AXA Equitable senior vice president, will be in charge of distribution, and Tim Herr, another senior vice president, will be in charge of operations, according to AXA Equitable.

AXA Equitable is a unit of AXA Financial Inc., New York, which, in turn, is a unit of AXA Inc., Paris.
