As senior managing director and director of systematic equity investments at Bear Stearns Asset Management, James O’Shaughnessy manages $7.1 billion, including sub-management of funds for Royal Bank of Canada, and the Dreyfus Premier Alpha Growth Fund.

He had an investment company, O’Shaughnessy Capital Management, which he ran for 13 years before he sold to Bear Stearns in 2001, and before that was managing partner at an equity and venture investment partnership, Southview Development Company.

He is perhaps best known for his writings. He is the author of What Works on Wall Street (McGraw-Hill, 1998); How to Retire Rich (Broadway, 1997); and Invest Like the Best (McGraw-Hill, 1998) He has a new book out this month, Predicting the Markets of Tomorrow (Portfolio Hardcover).

O’Shaughnessy has a University of Minnesota economics degree and studied international economics and business diplomacy at Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.

When he has time to unwind, O’Shaughnessy says it’s “family first; I have three kids and I like to spend as much time with them as possible.” He likes to read, to travel–Italy in particular–and listen to music.
